Super Bowl 2009 Advertisement Predictions & List of Spots

Super Bowl 2009 Advertisement Predictions & List of Spots

Every year I like to pay attention to who is buying Super Bowl Tv spots and what their creative is. Generally the best advertising is done for this time of year, and it should be because the cost of a thirty second spot this year is 3 million dollars.

The list of this year’s spots are:

Anheuser-Busch
Agency: Omnicom Group’s DDB, Chicago; Havas’ Euro RSCG, Chicago; and Waylon
Prediction: This year A-B has been running on Budlight’s Drinkability campaign.
I expect to see more or less an organized series of spots for Bud Light’s Drinkability.

Audi
Agency: Venables Bell & Partners, San Francisco.
Prediction: Most likely a 2010 car model spot, it’s 60 seconds so it should be interesting.

Bridgestone
Agency: Independent Richards Group of Dallas
Prediction: Their a tire company guess what they’ll be doing… selling their product :)

CareerBuilder
Agency: Independent Wieden & Kennedy
Prediction: No more monkeys but likely something amusing about getting a new job in a tough job market.

Cars.com
Agency: DDB, Chicago
Prediction: Cars.com help people buy and sell new and used cars online, they need to promote the service so they’ll most likely
try to connect why you would need to use their product. A lot of people are trying to get out of leases and expenses so this seems like a no-brainer.

Coca-Cola Co.
Agency: Wieden & Kennedy
Prediction: This is a big year to compete against Pepsi’s new rebrand, Pepsi’s rebrand hasn’t been doing too well in the public’s eye but it might change this super bowl, I am very curios what Coke will do to combat this new creative. I wonder if they will differ at all. Last years 2008 spot was amazing with the Coke Side of Life I hope they do something connected to this great piece of creative.

DreamWorks Animation/PepsiCo’s SoBe
Agency: Omnicom Group’s Arnell Group is crafting the SoBe ad.
Prediction: Sobe water is all over the water aisle, and I have noticed something this year, the trend for new soda’s has decreased and the new waters has increased in the supermarkets here. I bet this will be an interesting spot, SoBe has a lovely brand and I am interested in seeing what they come up with.

E-Trade Financial
Agency: WPP Group PLC’s Grey New York
Prediction: Don’t bet with Madoff, bet with us… Shrug sorry I don’t know how they’ll pull off this spot it just doesn’t seem like it’s the right time to buy this spot.

PepsiCo’s Frito-Lay
Agency: n/a
Prediction: Doritos spot, they have had a long running campaign focusing on the effects of Doritos. I expect to see more of the same.

General Electric
Agency: Omnicom Group’s BBDO
Prediction: This year GE really repositioned their company, they switched out of the appliance industry and re focused on larger issues with global energy issues etc. I really don’t know what their company is doing outside of this and I think this is a way to show their newly positioned brand to investors and to house hold America. I am curious what their going to be showing but I speculate it will be an ad about a hopeful future.

GoDaddy
Agency: In-house
Prediction: Sexy girl(s). Again something irrelevant to their product but oddly memorable. I don’t know I never liked these spots and every year they seem to get tackier. Good luck GoDaddy.

Hyundai
Agency: Goodby, Silverstein & Partners, San Francisco
Prediction: New Car Model for Genesis Coupe 2010. ( according to the adage.com article cited below )

Monster
Agency: BBDO
Prediction: Traffic generation for their job list much like career builder’s spot. People are let go and looking and that’s traffic that they’re both competing for.

NFL
Agency: BBDO
Prediction: Fan related content and traffic generation for NFL web content.

Pedigree
Agency: Omnicom Group’s TBWA/Chiat/Day
Prediction: Pet Food advertisement…

PepsiCo Beverages
Agency: TBWA/Chiat/Day handles Gatorade and brand Pepsi, while BBDO handles creative duties on Mountain Dew.
Pepsi’s 2008 Rebrand has positioned themselves to use their new creative for refresheverything.com This campaign will either make or break their new brand positioning. I hope for the best to Pepsi, but their new packaging really does have a lack luster look to it. Oh and MTN DEW changed it’s brand as well from Mountain Dew, I suppose this will be seen as well.

Teleflora
Agency: The Fire Station, the company’s in-house agency.
Prediction: Send flowers to your loved one.. * A smart lead generation for valentines day products… *
