Maybe you got a chance to watch the Grammys last night, we did. The most exciting thing about it of course to me was watching the advertisements. Lincoln.com/music/ lead the way with a miniature performance of “Major Tom” by Shiny Toy Guns followed with a vote for the car companies next campaign TV spot . This content release of free music + vote to influence a larger campaign defines what I’ve noticed as a trend this year. Free content has become king in advertising. It could be a free article, a free newspaper, a free song, a free game, all of it is the same to get your consumers attention you have to buy their attention, and buy something that they like. And the reward? to appeal to them later on when they can afford your product. Well if it works with the math gurus than I applaud the execution by Lincoln’s marketing team.
