Comcast Live On Demand ( formerly Fancast ) Now xfinity

Outside of the fact that this is a completely interesting and fairly new service… I think the name ‘xfinity’ sounds strange, Xfinity sounds harsh. But Comcast Xfinity does sound better than Comcast Fancast. Comcast Fancast sounds redundant. Xfinity I guess is named this way because they looked to brand and trademark this specific product. It’s probably a good move for the same reasons SyFy changed from Scifi.

Dissecting this name: I don’t dislike ‘x’ on it’s own it refers to the roman numeral 10 and that connects to the year 2010 which is kinda cool. I think on it’s own xfinityTV sounds nice. but the removal of the dots in the i’s and the gradient being required is slightly strange. And Xfinity on it’s own sounds a bit harsh. But because it’s a trademarkable name “xfinity” does sound like it has a future. We’ll see how far this goes as Verizon and other services roll out similar services.

The link to Fancast.com soon to be xfinity.com

Although the Fancast that Comcast has out is a good product, but it doesn’t compare to DISH Networks TV Everywhere. As a consumer/employee with DISH I have had a chance to try out there TV Everywhere and loved it. I was able to go out of town and still have access to my recordings and TV. The Fancast has yet to be able to provide features outside of your home. Good product but could be better.
