Occupy Art

occupybostonpic

Like many people I am really curious about the “Occupy” movement and more specifically about what art is being created inside of it. America’s historic movements have led to a lot of culturally diverse and inspiring artwork and music. Logically one would think there must be something brewing inside this movement as well…

So.. I’d like to collect user submitted work here and post it up. So please if you have photography or have a link to a recorded song send it to adbrandetc.com

The cover art was a shot found over at Behance.net by Ashley Applebee for Occupy Boston. View all of her work at: http://www.behance.net/gallery/Occupy-Boston/2292720

OFC – Obama Fried Chicken… Thanks China…

article-0-0E2A745D00000578-38_634x419

Alright I am amused about this but I am disturbed too. This should make it clear to everyone that there is absolutely no regard for intellectual property in China. So much so that they brazenly took the likeness of Obama’s face plus the internationally known brand KFC and ripped both off at the same time.  If it was not so amusing, I would be totally disgusted. But really we need tougher international IP laws. Just imagine if they can get away doing this with Obama’s face imagine what they can do with a major drug companies IP, or a favorite phone companies tablet or phone,  or a software companies IP…

According to multiple news organizations, this could have been in response to some recent political trade agreements. Who knows either way for now, its funny. Find out more here.

And more about the trade agreement that might have started this.

Really?… TGIF!

Maybe the ad placement executive should have looked at the creative first :) . In all honesty I hope this is a faked ad placement photo, if not oh well.

Great Find from one of contributors, who discovered it over at REDDIT.com

XfinityTV 2.0 Reminds me of Something…

Well I am not going to call XfinityTv.com’s new sites style a rip of Netflix, but I will say that they must have been heavily influenced by Netflix’s recent site update and paid quite a bit of homage to Netflix.

What’s weird is being influenced in this case is not a bad thing, I think they actually one-upped Netflix in some ways.  But as these sites become more similar looking as a user I begin to think: “Why am I paying twice for a similar product?”

What do you think about XfinityTV’s new site update?

These guys are classy, wow.  As this Ad campaign has been nominated Worst of the year by AdWeek, I’ll have to say I never even heard of it till they brought it up. But I have to say for getting such celebrity power behind it, this is pretty stupid. What do you think?

NBC Universal New Logo

NBC-UNIVERSAL

The Previous NBC Logo.

Well first off it reminds me a lot of the new Syfy branding from their new interactive site. The purple palette reminds me a lot of the palette used over at SyFy.

Outside of that the typography is unique looking it is simpler. But is simpler necessarily always better? In this case yes for their corporate site only. I believe that it is less restrictive than their previous branding, but execution wise I am curious to see if it will play out with their sub brands such as NBC news or CNBC etc. Will they stay or go.

Why Intellectual Property Now More Than Ever Needs to be Protected

Screen shot 2011-09-13 at 2.40.12 PM

When I see postings like this: http://www.thedisciplesofdesign.co.uk/2011/01/a-little-familiar/

My blood boils..

Everyone in the creative industry knows that intellectual property has been disrespected in the global market, but no president has dared to fully say anything about it. The logic for the perpetrators: if we can get away with it in another country, than why not? Why not? … Besides the obvious moral and ethical issues that go a long with stealing, their is not much to stop these crooks.  We need global intellectual property protection. Their needs to be laws in place here and any country that claims to have a free market trade agreement.  Will it ever happen and have any strength in our life time? Who knows. But if your running for president or your working for a candidate, please get them to defend IP rights whether it is in the creative industry or the software industry, pharmaceutical industry or any other industry. And if your in the Republican party this is the key place to get the independent votes, we want someone with back bone to stand up for IP rights.
