This new mark for Nike's Football division is awesome. Its part shield, part hypercube, part something out of tron/the 80s, and lastly it reminds me of Miami Vice with those Porsche's that had the rear window with shades. In my opinion great brand identity update for visual reasons but the conceptual reason for it is a bit ambiguous. The explanation is for the cube is that it is made up of 4 dimensions 'Technical, Physical, Tactical and Mental' ( the characteristics that make a great football player ). Do you get it, does it matter?

Update::

We saw the film tonight. It was one of the most gorgeous films ever made. James Cameron is pure genius, the whole thing was just stellar from top to bottom the viewer’s experience falls in love with characters. Way-to-go their is magic still in Hollywood!! Go see this film this holiday vacation. One side note and if you like warcraft you may already be thinking what I am thinking. Don’t the Nabi remind you a heckuva a lot of the purple Elves from the Warcraft franchise. Just the same the game is almost uncannily art directed, maybe the Warcraft people didn’t mind the similarities either .

Oh and one last note who thought of slamming the lock-up at the closing titles?!? The identity looked stretched on our screen, and well not nearly as good as the rest of the film nor the lock-up in the poster format. Which looked much better.

———————————–

Now James Cameron has recently done anything but sub par work so I am excited to see this film, and interested purely because of it’s art direction… The film looks to be out of this world in concept art, cgi, and with it’s plot. But more importantly it hopefully will inspire a million new creatives to go back to pen and paper and come up with wild ideas. I heard the interview for James Cameron about the film and he wrote the film and thought it up way before the technology was ready to execute his vision. So it just goes to show you if you can dream it, you can build it. Anyways I’ll leave you with the trailer, interviews, identity lockup, and some key art concept illustrations I saw from a talented studio.

Also attached is some key game art for the Xbox release by Ars Thanea a great illustration, art direction agency.

I also attached the much debated Identity for Avatar which looks similar to Papyrus a font alot of designer’s hate. And after it’s usage in other sci fi films I can see why people would be a bit quick to judge. On further inspection though I think this this lock up is unique enough that it stands on it’s own. The message is the environment so the lock up can get away with being subdued in my opinion.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=PXVIzc7OeuU

So many of you have seen my personal business card and asked where did you get it done? For the longest time it’s been just a little secret of mine. But this is the the English printer where I got the cards printed: Plasma Design

Overall the time to make the card took about 2 weeks from when the file was sent to England to when I received the business cards. This is due to post time, but I was very happy with the finished result and would love to recommend Plasma Design to anyone who want’s a specialty card done.

If your going to use them just tell them Joseph Maguire sent you!

PS when printing with this medium you have to worry a lot about ink bleeding. So when choosing your type sizes, do not choose anything with a really thin line to it. As a rule of thumb: no smaller than 9 pt type.
